Enter the Backrooms. Survive what waits inside.
backrooms is a multiplayer horror game for Windows PC, currently in development by frostberry UG (haftungsbeschränkt) using Unreal Engine 5.
Inspired by the collaborative Backrooms universe, the game places players inside a vast and unnatural world of seemingly endless rooms, corridors, abandoned structures and other unsettling environments.
What begins as an attempt to find a way out quickly becomes a struggle to survive.
The Backrooms are not one single place.
Players travel through different levels, each with its own environment, atmosphere, dangers and rules. Familiar-looking spaces can stretch far beyond what should physically be possible, while seemingly harmless corridors may lead somewhere completely unexpected.
Exploration is a central part of the experience. Players must search their surroundings, locate useful items, discover routes between levels and learn which areas are safe enough to enter.
There is rarely only one way forward.
You are not alone.
Different entities inhabit the Backrooms, and each presents its own type of threat.
Some may follow players from a distance. Others react to movement, sound or proximity. Certain encounters can be avoided by remaining alert and understanding the behaviour of the entity before it is too late.
Running is not always the best solution.
Players will need to decide when to hide, when to move quietly, when to keep their distance and when there is no other option but to escape.
backrooms is designed around cooperative multiplayer.
Explore the Backrooms together with other players, search for resources, investigate unfamiliar environments and try to find a way deeper into — or perhaps eventually out of — the Backrooms.
Staying together may make survival easier, but the environment does not always make that possible.
Players can become separated, take different routes or encounter threats without the rest of the group nearby.
Communication, exploration and cooperation become increasingly important as the group progresses.
The Backrooms are built around uncertainty.
Empty rooms, fluorescent lights, industrial corridors and forgotten spaces create environments that feel familiar while at the same time fundamentally wrong.
The game focuses on atmosphere, exploration and psychological horror rather than constant combat.
Players should never be completely certain what is waiting around the next corner — or whether the place they have just entered is actually safer than the one they left behind.
